At around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday police responded to the Darien Fire Department on Post Road and met with a 29-year-old member. She told officers that Gregory Twardy, 49, of Norwalk had come earlier in the day with his pay loader to plow the snow in the rear lot of the fire department. Several hours later he returned with his pay loader and snow plow attachment, and began beeping his horn, police said.
Through the window, the woman saw Twardy destroy a wooden guard rail that the fire department uses as a bench, by dropping his snow plow onto it, according to police. She said that Twardy then drove across the lot, lifted the plow and dangled it from chains over her car, police said.
She went out to confront and he said, "I thought that would get your attention," according to police reports. Twardy then left the scene, and no damage was done to the car, police said. Several other members saw what happened and provided written statements, police said. Fire department officials did not wish to press charges against Twardy for the damaged property.
Police went to Twardy's home in Norwalk and he said that the complainant had contacted him to plow the snow in the rear of the lot. He told officers that he didn't realize he had damaged the property with his pow. He admitted that he had raised the plow over the complainants car, but told officers that she knows him and that he had done it as a joke, according to police.
Twardy was issued a misdemeanor summons for breach of peace and released on a promise to appear in court on Jan. 16.
